DIRECTIONS FOR SELF DRIVERS
A Lovely Scenic Drive
Port Douglas is 70km from Cairns airport and once you leave Cairns, the drive is beautiful, full of deserted beaches and rainforest. Turn right at the airport exit on to Captain Cook Highway and follow the signs to Mossman/Port Douglas. At the Port Douglas turn off, follow the road right down to the end and then turn right (into Macrossan Street). We are just a few metres on the left right by the sea.
CAR PARKING
Free Car Parking
We have underground car parking that is free for you to use. There are also plenty of car parking spaces outside the resort which are both free and very safe.

Just relaxing in beautiful laid back Port Douglas is in itself a treat, with an array of beautiful restaurants, boutique shopping and fabulous 4 Mile Beach just metres from our resort. Add to that the vast array of things to do and see – we promise you will not be wanting for something to do
First on the list of must do’s is visiting the great barrier reef, the second is experiencing the amazing rainforest close by. However, there is so much more : visiting idyllic low isles, experiencing crocodiles and our stunning variety of tropical birds, cuddling a koala, going by Skyrail to Kuranda, fishing, river drifting, visiting coffee plantations, local food tasting tours, waterfalls, and hiking – to name just a few.
Complimentary Tour Service
An important part of our complimentary guest services is providing expert and impartial advice on the different tour and sightseeing options available to you. You might want to go to the reef – but which tour option best suits you? You might want to go to the rainforest – but should you do a full day or half day and should you self-drive or go on a guided tour? We can easily answer these questions for you, so please do not hesitate to ask, even before you arrive.
When to Book
Whilst we appreciate that many people like to be organised and book tours well in advance, the reality is that the weather is very changeable in the tropics, and you might consequently need to change tour dates on arrival. We therefore recommend that we book the tours for you, so we can easily change them if need be. It costs no more, and we are happy to make bookings on your behalf days or weeks before your arrival.

MONEY MATTERS
Pay on Arrival
We generally require no payment on booking. The only exception is if you book a room for 10 days or more or book multiple rooms. In these instances, a 20% deposit is required.
Payment Options
You can pay for your accommodation in a variety of ways. Cash, debit card and Mastercard or Visa are all accepted. If you would like to pay in advance via online banking, we will happily send you our bank account details. Please note that credit card payments attract a 1.5% bank fee.
ARRIVALS DEPARTURE TIMES
Room check in time is 1.30pm
Whilst you cannot check in before 1.30pm, you are welcome to arrive any time after 8am. We will store your luggage and will give you a call whilst you are out enjoying Port Douglas as soon as your room is ready for you. As soon as you enter our resort, you are our guest and have full access to all resort facilities even if you arrive at 8am!
Room check out time is 10am
By the Sea Port Douglas is 96% full all year round. This means we can rarely provide a late check out as we must get your room ready for the next guest checking in at 1.30pm. Sorry!
However, if you are not leaving Port Douglas until later in the day, we will securely store your luggage for you and you have full access to all resort facilities (albeit without a room). And we do have a public bathroom.
INTERNET
We provide fast free NBN internet for our guests, both in the privacy of their room and throughout the resort.
There is no limit on its daily use. All rooms have smart televisions and therefore have streaming capability
HOUSEKEEPING MATTERS
Laundry Services
We have a guest laundry on site complete with commercial dryers and washing machines. Washing powder is complimentary. Studio 44, Sadie’s Den, all two-bedroom apartments and our Villas have their own private washing machine and dryer.
Room Clean
A complimentary room service is provided for those staying 7 days or more and additional fresh towels are available at reception as often as you would like them. We can provide a daily room clean if desired, at an additional cost – the cost of which varies according to type of room.

By the Sea Port Douglas is a very popular and highly rated resort. Guests love their time with us. However, that does not automatically mean that you will, and even if you love our resort, will those travelling with you do so?
We want you to have the most blissful happy time and that starts with you ensuring that our resort meets not only your requirements but also those who are accompanying you. Please therefore note the following:
Quality Comfort Not Luxury
We are an Australian accredited 4-star resort. This means that we provide quality comfort and we are very proud of the quality comfort we provide. However, we are not luxurious and if a bit of luxury is what you or your companions are seeking, then you should be looking at 4.5 or 5-star resorts
Stairs are Standard
The town plan of Port Douglas dictates that all resorts cannot be taller than a palm tree. This means that most resorts in Port Douglas, including By the Sea Port Douglas do not have a lift because they have only three levels. We have a ground, first and second floor and are happy to assist with luggage during reception hours.
Great Service But Not 24 Hours
We are proud of the excellent customer service we provide seven days a week. Our reception desk is open 8am – 3.30 pm daily. We do have an after- hours service for emergencies.
In-room Telephones
We do not have phones in any of our rooms. Should you not have a phone then please ask reception for a pay-as-you-go phone
Lovely Pool But Not Olympian
We have a pretty pool that is well presented, clean and heated to a constant 29 degrees. Guests enjoy our pool, particularly after being in the biggest pool of all just metres away (the Coral Sea). Our pool is of standard size for Port Douglas but that does not make it huge. If a super-sized pool is high on your collective holiday wish list, please check out our pool photo and ensure it is looks OK for you.
